This is the one I feel best about heading into the final stages of summer recruiting.

Payton Kirkland was trending toward Miami just a couple of weeks ago, but the Hurricanes look to be taking a couple of higher-rated offensive tackles which may have actually helped Michigan State out — although one of those tackles is Samson Okunlola.

Kirkland is announcing his decision on July 23 so Saturday could be the next day to look forward to if you’re a Michigan State fan hungry for some good news. It feels like he’ll be green.

Last week, Kirkland announced that he had a top two and that Miami was one of the finalists but his other was a secret. All signs are pointing to that other finalist being Michigan State.

The Spartans are clearly focusing on the offensive line to close out the summer as the next three commits, according to my predictions, will be linemen. There’s nothing wrong with that because that’s an area that needs to be focused on in the coming classes with a thin group right now.

Kirkland is the No. 276 overall recruit and 25th-best offensive tackle in the class, per the composite.
