Michigan State football built up a ton of recruiting momentum in June but things have been quiet and trending in the opposite direction for a number of recruits.

Jelani Thurman is a top target for Michigan State football and Corey Robinson of 247Sports just posted a VIP article on Tuesday about him being the perfect “MVP” in Jay Johnson’s offense at tight end.

But it looks like 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong and an Ohio State insider are under the impression that Thurman is leaning toward the Buckeyes ahead of a July 17 decision.

On Wednesday, both placed crystal balls on 247Sports for him to land in Columbus.

This would be a tough loss for the Spartans who had made him a top priority since the beginning of his recruitment and his first official visit was to East Lansing. But his last official? That’s right, it was to Ohio State. Sometimes that last visit can leave a lasting impression that’s tough to top.

There are still a few days left until he makes his commitment official, but it feels like Wiltfong knows something even though he did only place the crystal ball with a confidence level of six.

Ohio State does have a much better recent history of sending tight ends to the NFL so it makes sense that the Buckeyes would win out here for that reason — if that truly is the reason. But Johnson wanting to make tight ends the MVPs of the offense should intrigue him as well as potentially playing basketball for Tom Izzo and being from Michigan as well.

Thurman is still a few days away from his decision so a lot could change, but right now it looks like Mel Tucker will have to sway him away from the Buckeyes’ grasp.
