Michigan State football: Cole Dellinger is highest-rated OL commit since 2019

Cole Dellinger, a four-star offensive lineman from Clarkston, committed to Michigan State football over LSU and Purdue on Friday.

Three years. That’s how long it’s been since the last time Michigan State football landed an in-state four-star offensive lineman.

Devontae Dobbs committed to Michigan State in the 2019 class as the highest-ranked offensive lineman recruit in the Mark Dantonio era, but he only spent one year in East Lansing before transferring to Memphis with Julian Barnett.

Cole Dellinger not only became Michigan State’s first four-star in-state offensive line commit since 2019 on Friday, but he’s also the highest-rated commit on the line since Dobbs.

Dellinger is ranked the No. 330 overall prospect and 16th-best interior offensive lineman in the 2023 class, according to the composite. He’s also the No. 5 in-state recruit. He now joins three-star Johnathan Slack and four-star Clay Wedin as the other commits on the offensive line for Michigan State.

The four-star from Clarkston comes from an athletic family as his older brother Garrett is projected to start at right tackle for LSU this season.

Michigan State looks to be heading back in the right direction after a couple of quiet weeks near the end of June and at the beginning of July, picking up two four-star pledges in the past two days.

And this is great news for the direction of the offensive line, too, as Dellinger is going to have an early impact and both Slack and Wedin are solid additions. Plus, Mel Tucker is pushing for more offensive linemen ranked even higher than Dellinger, such as Chase Bisontis, Samson Okunlola, Miles McVay, and Payton Kirkland.

Michigan State is well on its way to landing its best offensive line class ever.
