Michigan State football will be pushing to flip some committed prospects in the 2023 class but who are the top candidates?

Being on the wrong side of some flips has to have rubbed Mel Tucker the wrong way over the past couple of classes. In fact, he’s lost guys like Rayshaun Benny and Jaylon Braxton to what can be considered shocking flips but he’s also done a little bit of flipping of his own.

In the 2021 class, he flipped Ma’a Gaoteote from USC, and in 2022, he flipped Katin Houser from Boise State and you could even make the argument that he flipped Alex VanSumeren from Michigan.

Tucker could have some of that same success in 2023 with a few major flip candidates on the radar. But who are they?

Ryan Yaites is a name that’s been on the radar for some time and there was even a rumor going around during the spring that he wanted to commit but Michigan State slow-played and he ended up committing to LSU in mid-April.

Now he’s fresh off an official visit to Michigan State and it feels like Mel Tucker is making him a priority again. He’s high on the Spartans and the feelings seem to be mutual here, but will it be enough to lure him back away from LSU before signing day? I think so.

Yaites is a 6-foot-0, 190-pounder from Texas who is ranked the No. 209 overall recruit and 17th-best safety in the class, according to 247Sports.

Don’t count Michigan State out of this one just yet.
