Miles Bridges could soon be back home with Detroit Pistons
Former Spartan Miles Bridges could soon be headed back home to Michigan as the Detroit Pistons are a favorite to land him.
It’s been a while since John Mason’s “Deeeeetroitttt Basketballlllll” really brought chills to Pistons fans as the city of Detroit has been deprived of a good basketball team for about a decade.
That could soon change with the help of a former Spartan.
Miles Bridges is a free agent this offseason and according to reports, the Pistons are a favorite to land the former Michigan State star who is fresh off a breakout season with the Hornets.
It looks like the Pistons will be battling it out with the Pacers and Hornets to land Bridges this offseason and if all goes as planned, Detroit is going to add him and piece together one heck of a lineup for the 2022-23 season.
Bridges, 24, just wrapped up his fourth NBA season with the Hornets and had himself a career year, putting up 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists while shooting 49 percent from the floor and 33 percent from deep. His long-range shot wasn’t quite as effective this past season, but he expanded his overall game and took that next step as a player. He looks to be on the verge of All-Star status.
Now he’s a free agent and the Pistons are closing in on bringing the Flint-native home.
After drafting Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren, it looks like the Pistons just need one or two more pieces to really round out a complete lineup with Saddiq Bey and Cade Cunningham. If they add DeAndre Ayton and move Isaiah Stewart to power forward off the bench with Duren backing up the former Suns big man at center, the Pistons would have one of the youngest, and best, rotations in the NBA.
Imagine a lineup with Cunningham, Ivey, Bey, Bridges, and Ayton with Duren, Stewart, Marvin Bagley, and Killian Hayes coming off the bench. That looks like a legit playoff squad and a team that could stay together for a few years and really become something special.
Bridges could help the Pistons get back to being NBA title contenders.
