Michigan State Football: Drew Jordan signs deal with Panthers
Former Michigan State football defensive end Drew Jordan has finally signed with an NFL team as the Panthers picked him up on Tuesday.
Immediately following the 2022 NFL Draft, most prospects hoping to find a home in the league usually sign undrafted free agent deals. If you’re even a somewhat productive college player, chances are you’re going to be pursued as an undrafted free agent or mini camp invitee.
However, days had passed with Michigan State football’s Drew Jordan still sitting there on the market and he even posted something to his social media that made it seem like he wasn’t getting any calls.
It was a real head-scratcher because Jordan has a strong 6-foot-3, 255-pound frame and he had a productive career before even transferring to Michigan State from Duke.
In fact, the former four-star prospect out of high school had 99 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and nine sacks. While he didn’t have the best season with Michigan State in 2021, recording 18 tackles, three tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks, he was still a solid player and built up a resume that should have landed him with an NFL team for rookie mini camp, at least.
On Tuesday, nearly a month after the NFL draft, Jordan finally signed a deal with the Carolina Panthers, according to Jordan Schultz.
Jordan should have no problem adjusting to the NFL and I could see him surprising some people in the Panthers’ organization, pushing for a spot on the 53-man roster in the fall.
Although he has a long, uphill climb ahead of him, he could be that next under-the-radar Spartan to make some noise in the league.
