Just days after making Jayden Wayne’s top six, Michigan State football has locked in a visit with the five-star defensive end.

It’s not often that Michigan State football is in the running for a five-star prospect from out of the region, but Jayden Wayne is buying what Mel Tucker is selling.

The five-star defensive end from Tacoma, Wash., just named Michigan State in his top six just last week along with LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, and Miami. The Ducks are the only West Coast team on his list whole the rest is basically SEC contenders and then Miami.

Michigan State would have been considered an outlier on that list of teams a couple of years ago, but Tucker has the program trending in the right direction and the Spartans were one of just three teams to make his final six that actually played in a New Year’s Six bowl (Alabama and Georgia were in the national title game).

The next step for Tucker after making his top schools would be getting him on campus.

Wayne already had official visits to Georgia, LSU, Miami, and Oregon planned but he will reportedly be at Michigan State on June 3.

Adam Gorney reported the visit, but there’s no word on if it’s an official or not. If it is, it would be his fifth and final official which would be surprising since he only unofficially visited Alabama. If it’s unofficial, that means he’s spending his own money to fly across the country to check out Michigan State which is just as big.

Wayne is ranked the No. 28 prospect in the 2023 class and he’s the No. 3 edge rusher, according to the composite on 247Sports.

It’s refreshing to see Michigan State recruiting at an elite level under Tucker.
