One of Michigan State basketball’s top targets in the 2023 class is planning an official visit for the middle of June. This is a must-win recruitment.

Tom Izzo is hard at work trying to secure a strong 2023 class to follow up a decent 2022 group led by Jaxon Kohler and Tre Holloman. Michigan State basketball needs a boost for 2023.

He’s been putting in some overtime trying to land Xavier Booker who is arguably the top recruit Michigan State has been in a good spot with since Jaren Jackson Jr.

Landing Booker would also silence a lot of critics who claim Izzo has lost his touch.

Izzo is working on that but he’s also gaining ground with four-star small forward Devin Royal who was one of the more recent offers he sent out this spring. He’s been a quick riser over the past couple of months and would be a perfect addition on the wing.

According to a report from Jason Killop of Rivals, he’ll be taking an official visit to East Lansing on June 17 which will coincide with a huge football recruiting weekend.

Royal is listed as a 6-foot-6 small forward on 247Sports who’s ranked the No. 75 prospect in the nation and No. 16 at his position. He’s also Ohio’s No. 3 recruit in the 2023 class.

He is a highly sought-after prospect in the class with offers from Iowa State, Xavier, Penn State, Florida State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Marquette, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Virginia Tech, among others. Izzo is going to have his work cut out for him here, but getting an official visit is a really good sign.

If Izzo can close this recruitment this summer, the 2023 class will start to resemble one of his best. Add in Booker and another top-100 wing and/or big and it’ll be one of his best ever.
