Michigan State football is going to land its best DL class in program history
Michigan State football is on the verge of landing its best defensive line class in program history, rivaling the 2016 group.
Who would have thought that in the same offseason that Michigan State football parted ways with Ron Burton, it would be on the verge of landing its best defensive line class ever?
Not me, and if you say you saw this coming, you’re lying.
Burton did great things for the program, but he just didn’t fit the direction that Mel Tucker was trying to move in and the two sides parted. All Tucker did after that was hit two home runs by hiring Marco Coleman and Brandon Jordan. Coleman is going to work wonders and Jordan is known as one of the top trainers of NFL defensive linemen in the country.
What recruit is going to say ‘thanks, but no thanks’ to a guy who has trained four of the top five pass rushers in the NFL? Not many.
And we’re seeing that play out in the current state of recruiting.
Michigan State is in on a number of elite defensive linemen, including a few five-stars. Jayden Wayne just listed the Spartans in his top six on Friday, David Hicks has been to campus once and plans to return for an official in June, and Vic Burley will also be taking a visit.
That’s three five-star defensive linemen who are highly interested in Michigan State.
Search a little deeper and you see about a number of four-star, top-250 kids who are also highly considering the Spartans. Guys like Jalen Thompson, Enow Etta, Tomarrion Parker, Bai Jobe, A’mauri Washington, Joshua Mickens, and Kayden McDonald are all high on the Spartans’ list, and vice versa. All are also ranked in the top 250.
Michigan State is in a good spot with 10 defensive linemen ranked in the top 250 nationally and that’s not even mentioning the one four-star recruit who’s already committed. Andrew Depaepe, the No. 140 prospect in the country, is already committed and he’s working to add some teammates to the 2023 class on the line — his top priority is Etta.
If all goes to plan, Michigan State should land 4-5 top-250 defensive linemen which would give the Spartans their best class in program history. And I think this will happen.
We all remember the 2016 class which was unreal — on paper — but this one will blow that group out of the water. It’s all just a matter of time.
The Brandon Jordan Effect is in full swing.
