Michigan State football has made the cut for one of the best defensive ends in the country in the form of five-star Jayden Wayne.

When Mel Tucker hired Brandon Jordan and Marco Coleman to replace Ron Burton, he knew it was going to pay massive dividends.

But I don’t think Michigan State football fans were quite prepared for the instant success those two hires would bring to the table. Heck, Burton was highly respected by fans and most of his former players had nothing but nice things to say about him, so how could Michigan State possibly get better in the trenches with his departure?

Well, when one of the two new hires trains four of the top five pass rushers in the NFL, top recruits are going to flock to East Lansing to get the same coaching.

The proof has been there with numerous blue-chip defensive linemen taking visits to East Lansing and Michigan State making top schools lists for a number of them.

On Friday, the Spartans made the top six of one of the most sought-after defensive linemen in the country as Jayden Wayne posted his finalists on Twitter.

My first irrational thought when seeing this top six graphic was that he’s looking directly at Michigan State’s logo but obviously I’m talking myself into thinking the Spartans are a favorite here.

Still, it’s awesome to see the benefits of hiring the right guys at the right spots on the staff. The hires of Jordan and Coleman have already paid off big-time and it feels like the Spartans are going to finish with their best defensive line class in school history.

Wayne has an elite top six of Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Miami along with MSU so this won’t be an easy recruitment to win, but he could still take a visit to East Lansing which could change the game here. He’s ranked the No. 28 overall recruit and third-best edge rusher in the class, per the composite.
