This is sort of a new one that has been building up over the past few weeks and it should have Spartan fans really excited.

David Hicks is a five-star defensive lineman from Katy, Texas, and he took an unofficial visit to Michigan State for the spring game and has already scheduled his official for June 3. Yes, that’s right, Michigan State is getting the nation’s top defensive lineman’s first official visit and that’s such a wild development given what fans have been used to from the Mark Dantonio era.

Mel Tucker is doing some serious work and landing an official from the nation’s top defensive lineman deserves massive praise, even if he doesn’t get the commitment.

But I feel like the Spartans have a really good shot here. They’re in the running for a couple of other five-star defensive linemen, but Hicks is the most likely to go green. He has been donning Michigan State gear at camps and events and even on his social media over the past week so maybe it’s a sign that his interest is growing.

The draw of being coached by Marco Coleman and Brandon Jordan has to be enough to make the Spartans one of the favorites to land Hicks and he’d be my favorite from the defensive side of the ball to pick MSU.

Hicks is ranked the No. 1 defensive lineman and No. 4 overall recruit in the country.
