Defensive Line

Starting tackles: Jacob Slade, Simeon Barrow
Backups: Jalen Hunt, Maverick Hansen

I was a little worried about the defensive line at the end of the season with Jacub Panasiuk departing, but I think this will be a great group thanks to Marco Coleman and Brandon Jordan.

Jacob Slade is going to benefit from the new coaches even after his breakout season in 2021 where he had 40 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. Expect those numbers to increase. The same goes for Simeon Barrow who I think has only scratched the surface. He had 34 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks last season. This duo will cause problems.

Jalen Hunt was expected to be a breakout star last year but couldn’t stay on the field. I can see him taking a big leap this season along with Maverick Hansen who was surprisingly productive.

Starting ends: Khris Bogle, Jeff Pietrowski
Backups: Tank Brown, Brandon Wright

Khris Bogle is the perfect replacement for Panasiuk on the edge and I think the Florida transfer could be a star for the Spartans this season. He played well for the Gators over the past couple of years, but I don’t think he’s reached his potential yet. He will for Jordan and Coleman.

As for Jeff Pietrowski, he’s on the verge of becoming that next star end for the Spartans and he gave fans a taste last season with 33 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks.

Tank Brown and Brandon Wright might be the most athletic backups Michigan State has had on the edge in quite some time. You can even throw Michael Fletcher into that group and Michigan State has plenty of talented depth on the edge.
