Michigan State basketball signee Jaxon Kohler was given a slight bump in the 247Sports rankings on Wednesday. Where does he stand now?

A week after impressing at the Iverson Classic, Michigan State basketball signee Jaxon Kohler moved up a couple of spots in the final 247Sports rankings for the class of 2022.

Kohler is one of three commitments for Michigan State in the class, joining Tre Holloman who is ranked No. 75, dropping a few spots, and Carson Cooper who is unranked. Cooper joined the class late and is expected to redshirt this upcoming season but will add some depth to the post.

Michigan State now has two recruits in the top 75 of the final 247Sports rankings which may not give it a top class in the Big Ten solely because it’s so small, but there’s quality over quantity.

The Spartans will be forced to use Kohler heavily this season as the center position took a hit with Marcus Bingham Jr. moving on to the NBA draft and Julius Marble hitting the transfer portal. Both guys would have contributed heavily if they decided to come back, but now the Spartans are down to Kohler and Mady Sissoko. If they both improve drastically this year, Michigan State could surprise.

Another wing will be looked at in the portal by the Spartans, but if Max Christie ends up returning, that question mark will be answered there — another wing would still be nice for depth.

Michigan State is going to be very young next season but the potential is there.

Kohler can do a little of everything and his footwork is apparently some of the best of the incoming freshmen bigs that Tom Izzo has ever had. Let’s hope he can work on that defense so he can play 20-25 minutes with ease.
