Michigan State basketball fans have grown impatient with the Spartans’ minimal action in the transfer portal, but that could soon change.

Just about every day for the past month, we’ve heard about new players entering the transfer portal who Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo should take a serious look at.

Heck, on Thursday, a big from St. Bonaventure entered the portal, and on Friday, Pete Nance from Northwestern hit the market. Both could be utilized in the green and white and fans are hoping Izzo at least reaches out to gauge interest, but mum has been the word on those fronts concerning the Spartans.

Frustration among the fanbase has set in for the minimal action in the transfer portal, but this could be part of the plan by Izzo.

Although there have been some really impressive bigs in the portal such as Fardaws Aimaq, Manny Bates, and Johni Broome, the deadline for players to enter the portal is May 1 so that could mean we’ll see a mass explosion of new entrants by Sunday. What that means is that Izzo may have been picky with his targets in the portal until the final crop of players finally make it official and enter.

Could we see even more big names enter the portal this weekend? Absolutely.

Do we know for sure this is Izzo’s plan? No, but it would make sense.

While I’m about as impatient as everyone else when it comes to completing a roster and avoiding the “staying pat” when it comes to transfer portal utilization, I do think that we need to give Izzo the benefit of the doubt until after May 1.

We will know more about Izzo’s offseason plan in the coming days.
