Michigan State basketball hosted Oakland transfer Micah Parrish on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans could soon be on commit watch.

Tom Izzo and the transfer portal. Name a more iconic rivalry.

Well, that seems to no longer be the case because he legitimately needs to add a couple of transfers this season as Michigan State basketball’s roster for the 2022-23 season is looking a little bare. He needs to bulk it up in the portal and he’s already putting in a little work, reaching out to Jalen Bridges (who has since committed to Baylor) and now Micah Parrish.

Parrish averaged 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds in 2021-22 and was one of the better defenders in the Horizon League for Oakland. He also played really well against the Spartans earlier in the year, putting up 19 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort.

Over the final eight games of the season, however, he was dominant, averaging 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the floor and 40 percent from deep.

Michigan State reportedly reached out to him last week and he took a trip to East Lansing on Wednesday, according to his social media.

This is a big development because Parrish is a guy who isn’t afraid to drive to the hoop and draw contact and he can also defend at a high level and shoot from distance. He’s a three-level scorer and plus defender who would give Michigan State a boost on the wing.

And for those worried about this meaning that Max Christie is gone, it has no effect on a potential return for the former five-star. Michigan State needs a win regardless of whether Christie comes back or not. This just provides extra depth — and good depth, at that.

Be on the lookout for a possible commitment soon.
