Michigan State Football: Ranking position groups after 2022 spring ball
1. Linebackers
The hype surrounding Michigan State’s linebacking corps is absolutely legit. Michigan State has one of the most loaded linebacker rooms in the country, and I say this without hesitation.
The Spartans brought in Aaron Brule and Jacoby Windmon in the transfer portal and both have all-conference talent and proved themselves at their previous schools before looking for fresh starts. We may not see them both start this season just because Michigan State runs a 4-2-5 currently, but we could see that scheme change up a bit with the amount of linebacker talent on the team.
Along with Brule and Windmon, Michigan State returns Freshman All-American Cal Haladay and Quavaris Crouch while Darius Snow has made the move to linebacker from his normal nickel spot.
Haladay could be a first-team All-Big Ten linebacker this season and I’d like to see more from Crouch because I know he has the talent. Snow can excel here and I have high hopes for this position change.
Oh, and Ma’a Gaoteote and Ben VanSumeren return after short stints in the transfer portal.
This position group is absolutely loaded and should be one of the top three in the Big Ten for 2022.
