5. Running Backs

If there’s one group that I think I may have ranked a little too low but I can’t really put them any higher, it would have to be the running backs.

I might be more optimistic about the running back room than most fans heading into the 2022 season and that’s because Mel Tucker addressed the position, and then some, this offseason.

Tucker went out and landed Jalen Berger from Wisconsin who will make a push for the starting job and he was with the team this spring. He also added Jarek Broussard from Colorado who happens to be a former Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year. On top of that, he returns Jordon Simmons, Elijah Collins, Harold Joiner, and Davion Primm has been tabbed as a breakout candidate.

Michigan State has a few starting-caliber running backs on the roster which will make up for the huge void left by Kenneth Walker III.

We saw how poor the run game was without Walker III nor any starting-caliber backs in the Peach Bowl and Tucker vowed to make sure that didn’t happen again.

Really excited to see what this group can bring to the table.
