Four-star defensive end Andrew Depaepe has been committed to Michigan State football for a couple of months and he’s been a godsend for Mel Tucker.

Every few recruiting cycles, there seems to be that one outspoken Michigan State football commit who does a great job of selling the program, engaging the fans, and trying to attract other top targets to join him.

In 2023, Andrew Depaepe has been that guy.

The four-star defensive end from Iowa has been the lead player recruiter for the Spartans in the 2023 class and it seems like every time I log onto Twitter, I see him pushing for another top target.

On Thursday, it was four-star defensive end Jalen Thompson, but normally, it’s four-star Enow Etta.

Heck, sometimes it’s both at the same time.

This makes sense because he wants to team up with some of the best defensive linemen in the class and create one of the best fronts in college football in a few years. All three were in East Lansing last weekend and there’s a feeling that they could all be green soon.

Just over the past week, he’s recruited Etta, Thompson, Rueben Owens, Samson Okunlola, and Jordan Hall.

Rarely do recruits like these come around, but when they do, you have to cherish them. Over the years, guys like Messiah deWeaver, Darius Snow, and Kevin Wigenton all assumed the roles of leaders and top player recruiters in their respective classes, but Depaepe might just take the cake for the best of the bunch when it comes to that.

We have yet to see a flurry of commitments from guys he’s pushed for, but it looks like his hard work is paying off and he’s Mel Tucker immensely.

Not only is he a top-150 recruit and a future starter for the Spartans on the defensive line, but Depaepe is the perfect Michigan State pledge. He’s exactly the kind of recruit you hope for in every class who is uber-talented and also outspoken with other top prospects.

Michigan State has to feel fortunate to have Depaepe because he is that dude.

Next. Way-too-early projected starting 5 for 2022-23. dark
