Michigan State football hosted an Alabama commit on Saturday for the spring game and it looks like the Spartans are on the verge of a flip.

Mel Tucker and Michigan State football looks to be on the verge of flipping a four-star Alabama commit after he took a visit on Saturday.

Those words would never have even been on the radar a few years ago and you would probably be committed if you uttered such a phrase before the Tucker era. It’s almost hard to believe that Tucker flipping four-star prospects from programs like Alabama is going to soon be the expectation.

Elliot Washington was on campus for the Michigan State spring game on Saturday despite being committed to Alabama since January. This was a bigger deal than just a casual visit by a prospect committed to another school (which happens all the time), but he chose to head to East Lansing for the spring game rather than go to Tuscaloosa for the Tide’s annual spring scrimmage on the same day. That’s a big-time move.

On Saturday night, the Spartans picked up some crystal balls for Washington.

This makes the whole Ryan Yaites recruitment make more sense as the staff seems to have prioritized Washington heavily when the former tried to commit and they probably only wanted to take one of the two safeties. Losing Yaites to LSU hurt, but it feels like the staff made a business decision, taking their chances with Washington.

With the crystal balls for Washington now favoring Michigan State following a visit, it feels like a flip is imminent.

Washington is the No. 132 overall prospect in the country and eighth-best safety, according to the composite, and he has ties to Michigan State. He was high school teammates at Venice (Fla.) with Charles Brantley and he’s also the nephew of former MSU safety Nehemiah Warrick.

Things are looking good for the Spartans here.

Next. Way-too-early projected starting 5 for 2022-23. dark
