Michigan State football picked up a commitment from three-star Florida-based cornerback Eddie Pleasant III on Sunday afternoon.

A big recruiting weekend under Mel Tucker has always yielded commitments.

The third-year Michigan State football coach has proven himself as a capable recruiter and any time he hosts a wealth of prospects, he collects commitments. This dates all the way back to his first full offseason last year.

After bringing in dozens of recruits this past weekend for the spring game, Tucker made some ground for some top targets and even one who didn’t make it to campus felt the need to make a move.

On Sunday, Eddie Pleasant III committed to Michigan State over other programs like Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Florida State, Iowa, NC State, Penn State, and Utah.

Pleasant III wasn’t on campus for the spring game this past weekend but he did check out East Lansing on April 9 and the only official visit he had scheduled this summer was to Michigan State at the end of June. It looks like that may be the only visit he’s going to need.

Michigan State’s 2023 class now grows to six and Pleasant is actually the lowest-rated of the group which goes to show just how well Tucker is recruiting. A year ago, he’d be in the middle of the class, ratings-wise, and in 2021, he’d be near the top.

Pleasant is ranked the No. 701 prospect in the nation and the 61st-best cornerback, according to the composite. He’s the Spartans’ first defensive back commit in the class but that could soon change with four-star Alabama safety commit Elliot Washington trending toward the green and white.
