Jeremy Fears is Michigan State basketball’s lone commit in the 2023 class thus far and he has some absolute ‘dawg’ in him. He’s what Tom Izzo calls an “OKG”.

When Tom Izzo recruits, he looks for guys who fit his mold and fit the “OKG” term which means “our kind of guy” and it’s what has made the Michigan State basketball program so successful.

Sure, Izzo would love to add some national titles to the resume, but he feels like he can get back to the promised land with guys who have some “dawg” in them and play with a certain chip on their shoulders.

Well, it looks like Jeremy Fears is one of those guys.

As the lone 2023 commit thus far, Fears has gotten Michigan State’s class off to a good start and it’s pretty clear that he is going to be a special player. He showed up and showed off at the Nike EYBL in Orlando this past weekend and was playing with that chip and even as a 6-foot-1, 165-pound point guard, he was putting dudes on posters.

This wasn’t his only posterizing dunk of the weekend that opened some eyes, either. He had an even more impressive dunk later on.

This second play was impressive to me because he took the ball to the hoop after a nice pick and instead of looking to pass it away, he saw red and went right to the hoop, and dunked over a leaping defender. He threw down over a defender who was bigger than him and made it look easy and also ruthless.

Fears playing with this aggression reminds me a lot of AJ Hoggard. He can use his aggression to score at will and he’s also a self-proclaimed “floor general” which is something Michigan State thrives with.

Michigan State got the ideal commitment in the 2023 class and he has some “dawg” in him.

Next. Way-too-early projected starting 5 for 2022-23. dark
