1. The chance to be “the guy” for talented MSU team

Max Christie was never expected to be “the guy” this season as that role was more so on Gabe Brown or Marcus Bingham or even Malik Hall, but with a return in 2022-23, the soon-to-be sophomore would be the go-to scorer and he’d be leaned upon heavily.

When top recruits are choosing schools, more often than not, they pick programs that could potentially feature them as “the guy” at some point. That would be Christie next year.

Would he really want to risk a chance to be a go-to scorer for a Big Ten title favorite and possibly an All-American candidate with a strong offseason for a second-round draft selection where he’ll have to fight for a roster spot and probably spend some time in the G-League? It doesn’t make a ton of sense to go that route.

Christie has the potential and the talent is there, but he just needs to be consistent and we’ve seen some big sophomore leaps before and he would be one of them.

Leading a potential national title contender and getting more exposure would only help his draft stock.
