Joey Hauser has been silent since the Michigan State basketball season ended, but he spoke about his conversations with family about a possible return.

Since Michigan State basketball’s season ended on a heartbreaking note a few weeks ago, decisions by Gabe Brown and Marcus Bingham Jr. have been made. Both seniors have decided to move on from the program and pursue NBA aspirations but there’s a third who has been quiet since the season ended and many are hoping for a return.

Joey Hauser has been relatively quiet on the decision front, but he spoke about his conversations with family and Tom Izzo this week.

It’s the first time he has spoken openly about a potential return and Michigan State fans have to be happy with what he had to say in an interview with a local Wisconsin TV station.

Usually, family opinions matter most to an athlete who is making a decision on the future, and with Sam Hauser (who’s currently in the NBA) telling him that he should probably come back, there’s at least a decent chance he’ll listen to the advice.

Hauser also spoke about his conversations with Izzo which haven’t been too in-depth yet, but the Hall of Fame coach would love to have him back as a senior leader.

Fans had been harsh toward Hauser at the beginning of the year and at the end of last season because of his constant struggles and lack of confidence, but we saw what a more confident and aggressive Joey looked like near the end of the season as he really came into his own. He scored 27 points to beat Davidson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and hit some big shots down the stretch of the regular season.

Hauser’s points per game dropped slightly from 9.7 in his first year with MSU to 7.3 this past season but his 3-point shooting numbers improved from 34 to 41 percent.

This would be a great piece to an already-solid roster for next year.

Next. Way-too-early projected starting 5 for 2022-23. dark
