We saw Maliq Carr join the basketball team following the Peach Bowl and everyone had mixed thoughts about it because he would have been better off focusing on football.

After spring practices began last week, it was reported that Carr was back with the football team which means that he probably realized that he has a better opportunity to break out there than on the hardwood. I think he’s going to have a really big spring and stand out as a top offensive threat for the Spartans at tight end.

The freshman tight end from Southfield finished his first season after transferring in from Purdue with eight catches for 135 yards and it was obvious from the get-go that he had the potential to be a serious threat in the passing game.

As long as he can show that he’s working on his blocking, he’s going to be the Spartans’ top option at tight end to complement Daniel Barker.

Carr should have a strong spring and stand out as a top target for Payton Thorne.
