Mel Tucker brought the Michigan State football recruiting trail up a notch with his signings from the class of 2022 which is ranked 23rd in the nation.

As mentioned in the offensive breakdown, Mel Tucker’s recruiting was a noticeable jump from the previous five years. The philosophy of the Spartans appears to be “ship in or ship out” as Tucker is bringing in more and more talented classes each year as well as actively shopping the transfer portal.

There are five four-star prospects in this class, which is the most total for the Spartans dating back to 2018. This is also the most four-stars in a single class for the Spartans since 2016.

This defensive class is also joined by four defensive transfers: Georgia cornerback Ameer Speed, UNLV linebacker Jacoby Windmon, Mississippi State linebacker Aaron Brule, and Florida edge rusher Khris Bogle. Additionally, Lawrence Tech linebacker Tommy Larson joins this team as a walk-on senior.

All 2022 commits will be sorted by their 247Sports composite rating.

Clarification: After some questions regarding my offensive article, “losing” signifies players that are graduating, not returning to play, declaring for the draft, or transferring. “Returning” are players coming back. Finally, “bringing in” are fellow class of 2022 commits, as well as incoming transfers.

Notes: Dillon Tatum, one of the higher-rated offensive prospects and athletes in this class, will play defensive back for the Spartans, hence his inclusion in this article.
