Michigan State football: Playing time odds for 2022 class offensive signees
Tyrell Henry, WR
WR room:
Losing: Jalen Nailor, Ian Stewart, Ricky White, CJ Hayes
Returning: Jayden Reed, Tre Mosley, Montorie Foster, Keon Coleman, Terry Lockett Jr., Christian Fitzpatrick, Cade McDonald, Sebastian Brown
Bringing in: Germie Bernard, Antonio Gates Jr., Jaron Glover
Tyrell Henry (No. 773 nationally, No. 113 WR) faces a steep climb to see the field this year. With the numerous talented wide receivers on the Spartan roster, it would be beneficial for Henry to take a year to bulk up. At 170 pounds, Henry can afford to add some mass to help contribute to the green and white.
This position is arguably the most loaded on the Spartan offense, and it continues to be so with the four signed in this year’s class. Unless MSU has a 2018-like situation of injury after injury, Henry will be stuck behind the rest of this stacked group. The nail in the coffin for Henry’s playing hopes this year will be him only getting the summer practice sessions to develop.
Prediction
Redshirt. Tyrell Henry is an amazingly talented receiver, but I do not see him surpassing Foster, Coleman, Gates Jr., or Bernard to compete for the WR3 spot. I will be the first to admit I am wrong if he surpasses all expectations, but I just cannot see him playing unless he impresses on special teams.
Assuming the Spartans put away Western Michigan or Akron early, the wide receiver rotation will be very telling in terms of my prediction accuracy.
