Michigan State football: Playing time odds for 2022 class offensive signees
Gavin Broscious, OG
OG room:
Losing: Kevin Jarvis, Luke Campbell, Blake Bueter, James Ohanba, Jacob Isaia
Returning: J.D. Duplain, Matt Carrick, Geno VanDeMark, Ethan Boyd
Bringing in: Kristian Phillips
Gavin Broscious (No. 746 nationally, No. 38 IOL) was one of the first 2022 commits for the Spartans, with his pledge dating back to November of 2020.
At 6-foot-5, 305 pounds, Broscious will be a force for the Spartans. With approximately half of the offensive line graduating or transferring, there will be a lot of spots up for grabs this summer. That being said, Geno VanDeMark and Ethan Boyd are both coming off redshirt years while bulking up under the tutelage of Chris Kapilovic.
It’s relatively rare to see day one starters on the offensive line in any Power Five school, but don’t count out the Arizona product.
Michigan State will likely see a drop in offensive line production this season, as Kenneth Walker III made last year’s line look better than it was, before factoring in the graduations and transfers. If Broscious puts in the work and impresses the coaching staff, he may see some action before this season wraps up.
Prediction
It is relatively hard to predict the offensive line, but I believe Broscious will spend a year redshirting and bulking up for the Spartans. With the offensive line from the 2021 class redshirting, it will be their time to shine while Broscious hits the weight room and learns the playbook.
Next year, JD Duplain will be a senior and Matt Carrick is graduating, leaving openings for him and fellow classmate Kristian Phillips to compete for.
