Mel Tucker brought the Michigan State football recruiting trail up a notch with his signings from the class of 2022 which is ranked 23rd in the nation.

This is Mel Tucker’s second recruiting class with the Spartans, after the 46th ranked 2021 class. This group ranks fifth-best in the Big Ten and is Michigan State football’s best signing day since the now-infamous 2016 class.

The program brings high expectations into this year as defending Peach Bowl champions. In the last class, two of the 18 players received at least one start — those being long snapper Hank Pepper and cornerback Charles Brantley. Additionally, Keon Coleman and Ma’a Gaoteote received significant playing time for the Spartans.

However, four players transferred out after less than a year with the program (Tyson Watson, Alex Okelo, Michael Gravely Jr., and Kam Allen). Tucker signed 12 offensive players this class, with a majority being wide receivers and offensive lineman. One point of interest is that MSU chose to not sign a running back in this class, despite losing Kenneth Walker III to the NFL. Instead, Tucker opted for a pair of backs in the transfer portal. This list is sorted by their 247Sports Composite rating.

Michigan State brings in three offensive transfers in tight end Daniel Barker and running backs Jarek Broussard and Jalen Berger. Seven players are from the state of Georgia, leading the way as the state with the most Spartan commits from the 2022 class.

Note: Dillon Tatum and Jaden Mangham, both listed as athletes on 247, will be included on a defensive breakdown, as the official Spartan graphics for each player had them listed as defensive backs.
