Quarterback

Starting quarterback: Payton Thorne
Backup: Katin Houser OR Hamp Fay

Payton Thorne was one of the biggest surprises on the team last season. He broke some records in his first full season as a starting quarterback and it feels like he’s just scratching the surface.

Thorne finished his sophomore season with 3,240 yards and 27 touchdowns with 10 picks and a 60 percent completion rate. He could afford to cut down the interceptions and improve that accuracy just a little bit and he’ll be an All-Big Ten first-teamer next year. He will have no shortage of weapons to utilize at tight end and receiver which will only help.

Behind Thorne will be incoming freshman Katin Houser who was one of the most impressive quarterback recruits in the 2022 class. He’ll be battling it out with Hamp Fay and Noah Kim for that backup spot. I think Houser’s talent and potential will win him the backup job.

Fay is a talented quarterback, but Houser is just a step above.

It’s crazy how far this quarterback room has come since 2020.
