Receiver

Starting receivers: Jayden Reed, Tre Mosley, Keon Coleman
Backup: Christian Fitzpatrick, Antonio Gates Jr., Germie Bernard

Jayden Reed’s return was arguably the best news of the offseason for Michigan State as the team’s best receiver who eclipsed 1,000 yards in 2021 is back. He became the first Spartan receiver to break 1,000 yards since 2015 with Aaron Burbridge. He’s going to be an All-Big Ten player and potential All-American and Biletnikoff Award candidate this season. Oh, and did you know he and Payton Thorne grew up together?

Tre Mosley was one of the most consistent receivers on the team last season and he doesn’t get enough credit. He’ll slide into that WR2 role with Jalen Nailor gone. I also see Keon Coleman breaking out and becoming a star for the Spartans but I also wouldn’t be shocked if Germie Bernard started as well.

Christian Fitzpatrick should see more time this year and incoming freshman and four-star Antonio Gates Jr. will get some run.

Starting tight end: Maliq Carr OR Daniel Barker
Backup: Jack Nickel, Tyler Hunt

Maliq Carr showed some potential near the end of the season and he’s a freak athlete at tight end. He’s a big body who can run and doesn’t go down easily. As long as he works on his blocking, he should be Michigan State’s starter.

The position group got a fantastic boost with Daniel Barker transferring in from Illinois after catching 64 passes for 827 yards and 11 touchdowns over four years.

Jack Nickel will also be a solid player right away as a freshman and Tyler Hunt is set to return for another season as a veteran. This group is deep.
