Future All-American: Katin Houser

Choosing between Alex VanSumeren and Katin Houser was tough, but I’m going with the four-star quarterback who seems to check just about every box.

Houser is the glue to the Spartans’ 2022 class and Mel Tucker has to feel fortunate that he was able to flip him from Boise State. Right after he flipped from Boise State to Michigan State, he impressed everyone at the Elite 11 finals and looked like a future superstar at quarterback.

Michigan State has Payton Thorne for the next year or two, but when he leaves, the job is Houser’s. The Spartans do have Hamp Fay and Noah Kim, but I could see one of those guys transferring out when Houser wins the job. He’s just too good to stay a backup forever.

If it wasn’t for Thorne breaking out in 2021, Houser may have come in and competed for the starting job right away. He’s still going to push Thorne which is healthy, but he’s going to have to wait for his turn and when he gets the opportunity, he’s going to be a star. He’ll be an All-Big Ten quarterback and an All-American candidate.

Houser might end up being Michigan State’s best quarterback since Connor Cook, and an All-American at that.
