Michigan State football lands lineman Johnathan Slack who is a top-15 recruit in the state of Michigan and good things are to come for the Spartans.

Michigan State continues to improve and work on its 2023 recruiting class and the Spartans just made a big addition on Wednesday, landing three-star lineman Johnathan Slack.

Slack is a 6-foot-3, 280-pound tackle from Martin Luther King High in Detroit. This is a big addition because they need a lot of offensive linemen to help these next few years so they can build off that and start consistently having a good unit.

The three-star lineman is ranked in the top 400 nationally and is a top-15 recruit in the state of Michigan for the class of 2023. Though only being a three-star, he has a lot of upside. Slack held offers from other schools such as Arizona State, Boston College, Miami, Kentucky, Cincinnati, and a few others but he decided to stay home and attend Michigan State, which is huge for the Spartans especially since they have lost some great line talent to some of those in recent history — it is great to see them land one of them this time around.

Slack’s national ranking does not do justice for how good he is because it is hard for offensive linemen to be rated high unless you’re a five-star which is difficult to do at that position. But Slack is the 24th ranked interior lineman in the 2023 class. So when you look at him that way, Mel Tucker and the Spartans got a solid player to add to their line in 2023 and beyond.

One thing a lot of Spartan fans are thinking is, could this possibly improve the Spartans’ chances of landing Detroit King teammate and current five-star quarterback Dante Moore. This could be a possibility because Moore has had a lot of success with Slack on the line in front of him so would he potentially want to continue having that connection at the next level and that would be at Michigan State.

Moore has already had five visits to East Lansing so maybe once he sees teammates of his committing that will be the extra motivation he needs to persuade him to join the Spartans.

Slack becomes the third recruit to commit to the Spartans (before Andrew Depaepe became the fourth that night) in the 2023 class in addition to running back Kedrick Reescano and tight end Brennan Parachek. Let’s hope there is more to come and great things are to happen for the Spartans.
