Michigan State Football: Who will fill offensive void left by Kenneth Walker III?
By Gavin Kozlo
3. Antonio Gates Jr., WR
Last but certainly not least, I have four-star wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr.
Gates was a very sought-after wideout in the state of Michigan. He is the 36th ranked receiver in the 2022 class and the fifth-best recruit in the state of Michigan, per 247Sports.
His strengths as a receiver are that he is super strong and extremely athletic, so when going up for 50/50 balls he is a guy you can feel very comfortable with. Along with that, he has very strong hands and can make difficult catches. He won’t blow you away with speed so I wouldn’t expect him to be like Jayden Reed and also return punts because; if there was one major flaw in his game, it would be his speed.
Without being super fast, he still creates a lot of separation and uses his strength to get open and can and probably will make a ton of downfield plays with is what the Spartans love to do, as we saw what they did when they had two downfield threats with Reed and Jalen Nailor.
But, in my opinion, I can see Gates being a lot better than Nailor. He won’t be as fast but he has a ton of other intangibles he has could lead him to be an elite receiver in college football.
