2. Max Christie is starting to hit his stride

Being a freshman in the Big Ten is never easy. Being a freshman starter who plays 20-plus minutes per game is even tougher. Max Christie found that out the hard way through the first month, or so, of the season but it just feels like he’s figuring things out and hitting his stride.

Over the past three games, Christie is averaging 16.3 points and 5.0 rebounds. He’s also shooting 64 percent from the field as well as 64 percent (9-for-14) from beyond the arc.

Simply put, Christie is starting to become a star for the Spartans.

On Wednesday against Nebraska, he was red-hot from the get-go. He started the game off with a putback slam and then proceeded to score in a variety of ways, ending with a career-high 21 points to go along with four rebounds and a steal on 7-of-9 shooting. He was steady all night long and it was his third straight game of acting like a go-to scorer for the Spartans.

If Christie continues this play, he’s going to help lead the Spartans to some big things this season. He has already shaken off his slow start to the season and he’s now averaging 10.4 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting about 40 percent from the floor — and he’s just scratching the surface.
