Michigan State football is eyeing four-star LSU decommit TreVonte’ Citizen in the 2022 class and the Spartans are making a late push.

Mel Tucker and Michigan State football have some big shoes to fill in 2022 with Kenneth Walker III leaving for the NFL after a huge season.

So far this offseason, the Spartans have landed former four-star running back Jalen Berger from Wisconsin in the transfer portal and it looks like Jordon Simmons, Harold Joiner, and Elijah Collins are returning, as of right now. No one will be able to adequately replace Walker right away, but there’s a new name that has become a serious option in the 2022 class.

While Michigan State’s 2022 class is nearly all sewn up after early signing day, there could be some late additions in February, including one of the best running backs in the nation.

According to Justin Thind and Steve Wiltfong, Michigan State has become a top contender for four-star running back TreVonte’ Citizen from Louisiana.

Per Wiltfong, Michigan State is one of three top contenders to land him, but you have to subscribe to 247Sports to see who the other two are since it’s a VIP article. But this is a good development for Tucker and MSU.

Would Citizen challenge for Michigan State football’s RB1?

If Citizen commits to Michigan State, he would immediately push for playing time. The Spartans were trying to add a couple of running backs in this cycle and with Berger already committed, landing the top-125 player from Louisiana would create a healthy competition.

Citizen is a track star with good size at 6-foot-0 and 217 pounds and you can see his athletic background with his burst through the line of scrimmage and breakaway speed.

Patience, acceleration, and vision are three major traits for Citizen and that’s exactly what Michigan State needs after Walker’s departure.

A backfield with Joiner, Berger, Citizen, Collins, and Simmons would be elite.
