Michigan State Basketball: 3 takeaways from comeback win at Northwestern
1. Michigan State continues to just find ways to win
Last year, it seemed like Michigan State just found ways to lose games. It was different every time out and it was frustrating because there were no real leaders standing out.
This year? Much different story.
Michigan State was down 31-18 in the first half and it felt like the game was going to just be out of reach throughout. The Spartans could hit shots, were getting dominated on the glass, and were turning the ball over at a high clip once again. It was a recipe for disaster.
They battled back right before half to trail by just seven points and then came out of the locker room to go on a 10-2 run, taking a 36-35 lead early in the second. It was a tale of two halves for the Spartans, but there were still some stretches in the second half in which Michigan State just couldn’t figure anything out.
Last year, however, this game would have resulted in a loss for Michigan State. Not this season, though.
Gabe Brown stepped up, Joey Hauser made some big plays, Max Christie was solid, Marcus Bingham Jr. had a monster and-one, and AJ Hoggard was a surprise.
Great teams find ways to win when games seem unwinnable.
