Northwestern is getting set to host Michigan State basketball on Sunday afternoon to kick off the 2022 calendar year. Let’s get bold.

After a disappointing outing against High Point to close out non-conference play, Michigan State basketball will be back in action for the first time in 2022 on Sunday against a surprising Northwestern team.

The Wildcats are 8-2 on the season but have had to cancel a couple of non-conference games due to a COVID outbreak, but will be good to go on Sunday afternoon.

This won’t be a walk in the park for the Spartans, but they should win this game. If they play to their potential, they should handle the Wildcats in Evanston to start the calendar year on a positive note.

Will the Spartans take care of Northwestern to kick off 2022?

3. Joey Hauser makes four 3-pointers

Through 13 games, Joey Hauser is averaging one made 3-pointer and three attempts. He’s shooting about 33 percent from beyond the arc which is a little disappointing given the fact that it was his strength when he transferred to Michigan State.

Hauser is, however, coming off his best game of the season where he scored 17 points with 11 rebounds and made three deep-balls in the process. He looked like his old self.

The 17-point showing against High Point was actually only his third double-digit scoring outing of the season and his 11 rebounds were the highest since the second game of the year. He gained some much-needed confidence and that’s going to carry over into the Northwestern game as he’ll drain four big threes to spark the offense.

When Joey is on, that’s usually a good sign that Michigan State is going to have a big day.
