Surprise, another defensive back. Caleb Coley is actually the newest Spartan defensive back commit as he made it official on Early Signing Day after decommitting from Vanderbilt last month.

This “flip” was huge because the Spartans needed some defensive back help, especially at corner, and Coley was one of the more impressive prospects on the market.

Coley took an official visit to June and then committed to Vanderbilt, and I have a feeling that the staff told him that they wanted to see his senior film. It didn’t take long for things to heat up in November after he reopened his recruitment and Michigan State became the clear frontrunner.

It’s a good thing the Spartans didn’t give up on this one because I have a feeling Coley is going to be one of those special defensive backs that eventually find a home in the NFL after a solid career in East Lansing.

Foley stands just 5-11 and 166 pounds but he’ll be enrolling early and you just know strength and conditioning coach Jason Novak is going to make sure his frame gets Big Ten ready. When that happens, I expect big things from him almost immediately. He’s that good and Michigan State needs all the help it can get from the position.
