Marqui Lowery Jr., CB, Freshman

Stats (5 games): 18 tackles, 12 solos, 1 TFL, 1 pass deflection

Mel Tucker brought in another much-needed piece for the secondary in Marqui Lowery Jr. in the portal last offseason. Lowery didn’t come in with very high expectations after not playing a game for Louisville his freshman season.

Lowery didn’t see game action until Week 6 when he played 30 snaps against Rutgers. In 19 coverage snaps, Lowery was targeted four times and allowed one catch for 12 yards. He then had a chance to build off his first game as he was given 39 snaps the week after versus Indiana. He was targeted one time, allowing one catch for just one yard.

His worst game came against, unsurprisingly, Ohio State, where the defense as a whole suffered. Lowery was no different, allowing 63 yards and a touchdown on three receptions.

Lowery showed flashes of potential this season, having some good games against Big Ten competition. He is a player that should be monitored as a potential CB1 by 2023.

Final Grade: B+
