Michigan State Football: Grading transfers during 2021 season
Quavaris Crouch, LB, Junior
Stats (10 games): 75 tackles, 37 solos, 2 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR, 3 pass deflections
Quavaris Crouch was regarded as one of the top transfer portal prospects last season, so the expectations were high coming into the season.
Crouch quickly became a leader for a Michigan State defense that had been the staple of its team for years, but it was not the same story for this season. The defense as a whole has been below average and known as one of the only things holding the team back.
Crouch himself has done a good job in some aspects. He was fourth on the team in tackles and showed some promise as a pass rusher as well. Crouch mostly struggled in coverage, letting go a 77 percent completion rate to opposing quarterbacks this season. There was also a point in the season, Weeks 4-6, where Crouch missed six tackles in that span.
Despite some struggles, Crouch still managed to be one of the better linebackers in the Big Ten, receiving an honorable mention selection to all-conference team. While Crouch did some good and some not-so-good, he has a lot of potential to become a top linebacker in the Big Ten.
Final Grade: B
