Michigan State basketball will host Penn State on Saturday afternoon, looking for its ninth win of the season. Will the Spartans take care of business?

After a tough schedule to start the season, which included two games against top-10 foes, Michigan State basketball is entering a favorable stretch which includes a couple of winnable Big Ten games.

The Spartans are 8-2 on the year with their only losses coming against Baylor and Kansas which makes for an impressive schedule, considering they have added wins over Loyola Chicago, Butler, UConn, and Louisville. They also beat an undefeated Minnesota team on the road to begin conference play on Wednesday.

Now Michigan State heads back home to take on a 5-4 Penn State team that has lost three out of its last five games after starting the season 3-1. Still, no Big Ten win is ever “easy” and No. 1 Purdue’s loss at Rutgers proved that.

3. Tyson Walker has another huge game

After breaking out in his first Big Ten game as a Spartan, Tyson Walker is going to carry that momentum over into the Penn State game on Saturday afternoon.

Walker finished with a Spartan career-high 15 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists, making 5-of-7 shots from the floor and both of his 3-pointers. He looked like a star at the point guard spot and it had to give him some serious confidence, especially since he did it against an undefeated Big Ten foe on the road.

Now Walker gets to return home in front of a raucous Breslin Center crowd to build on that performance and I think he’ll do just that with another double-digit scoring game and six assists.

We’re watching Walker mold into an impressive point guard before our eyes.
