Michigan State Football: 3 reasons Kenneth Walker III is nation’s best player
3. Dominated behind an inconsistent offensive line
Michigan State has had a fantastic season and the offense was a big reason for the success. But the offensive line was the least consistent aspect of that side of the ball for the Spartans.
It seemed like each week that Kenneth Walker III was finding holes on his own and creating his own running lanes by reversing field, showing extreme patience, and accelerating through the line. Even then, he was getting hit at the line of scrimmage early and often. There’s a reason he finished with over 1,000 yards after contact this season. He led college football for most of the year.
Walker put up huge numbers this season, finishing second No. 2 in college football in rushing yards and had some impressive yards after contact and a large number of broken tackles.
The Spartans had issues on the line all year, especially near the end, with injuries and Jarrett Horst stepping away from the program.
If you put Walker behind an offensive line like Ohio State or even Michigan’s, he might even hit 2,000 yards.
