Michigan State basketball kicks off Big Ten play on Wednesday night against Minnesota. Here’s what to watch heading into conference play.

Michigan State football is off to an impressive start to its 2021-22 season — a way better start than many people were expecting. They have lost to two top-five teams in Kansas and Baylor. The Spartans were in position to win those games but played sloppy down the stretch.

They have some quality wins, though, as well. They have beaten a ranked UConn team, a strong Loyola Chicago team that will be in the tournament when we get to March, and a very good Louisville team that is overperforming in this year’s lowly ACC.

This start is because of standouts like Marcus Bingham Jr. being a monster down low, Gabe Brown’s leadership and energy, along with growing stars like AJ Hoggard, Tyson Walker, Malik Hall, and Jaden Akins.

Can the Spartans keep up this impressive play? Can they continue to break expectations and make a run for the Big Ten title?

Here are three storylines to watch for during Big Ten play that will allow the Spartans to stay in the hunt for the conference title and make a run in the tournament in March.
