Michigan State Basketball: 3 takeaways from sloppy win over Louisville
2. Tyson Walker looks like an elite facilitator
We’re still waiting for Tyson Walker to be able to shoot and create for himself, but he turned a corner as a passer on Wednesday night.
On the season, he averages somewhere around 4.8 assists per game, but he had 10 on Wednesday night, and his ball-handling and ability to find the open man really helped the Spartans pull away. If not for his stretch of three straight possessions with an assist at one point, Michigan State’s offense may have remained stagnant.
Walker only had two points (both were free throws) and he was 0-for-3 shooting on the night. He didn’t have an impact with his own offense, but he’s proving to be an elite facilitator with that vision and knack for finding the open man.
If he can continue this elite passing, the Spartans are going to flourish offensively and, hopefully, that will give him some confidence to hunt his own shots.
Walker also had a strong defensive game with four steals and a block.
It looks like he’s turning the corner as a point guard.
