Alex Afari is a relatively new name on the board for Michigan State and he just took an unofficial visit to East Lansing for the Maryland game. He had to see the Spartans’ struggles against the pass and realize that he probably could come in and compete for playing time immediately. That has to be a huge selling point for these top defensive targets.

Kentucky might be in an interesting position here with Mark Stoops likely being a top target for LSU’s head coaching vacancy which might cause Afari, and one other name on this list, to seriously consider flipping to Michigan State.

Afari played a lot of cornerback at the high school level, but given his 6-2, 195-pound frame, I think he could be more of a safety in college. Allen Trieu of 247Sports believes that he could also transition to outside linebacker.

Michigan State could use all the defensive help it can get and Afari would be a massive flip from Kentucky as the four-star is ranked the No. 309 overall recruit and 13th-best athlete, per the composite. The Spartans look like the main competition to Kentucky right now.
