Michigan State football on verge of flipping 3-star DE from West Virginia
The recruiting momentum generated by a 10-2 regular season in a head coach’s second year has proven to be immense. Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker has turned the Spartans around in just a couple of seasons and he’s already pushing for top-20 recruiting classes.
In fact, the Spartans currently have the No. 19 recruiting class in 2022 and most of the players committed did so before Michigan State began its breakout season.
Just imagine what recruiting is going to look like when Tucker can start selling results instead of hope. There’s going to be an unprecedented recruiting boost in East Lansing.
We’re already starting to see a recruiting uptick with potential flips in the works.
First, it was three-star cornerback Caleb Coley decommitting from Vanderbilt a month ago and leaning toward the green and white and since then, it’s been four-star wideout Armani Winfield decommitting from Texas and on Sunday, three-star defensive end Zion Young backing off of his commitment to West Virginia.
In all three cases, Michigan State is considered the heavy flip favorite.
Michigan State football on the verge of a Zion Young flip?
Young is the latest case and the Atlanta, Ga., native would be a great addition to Michigan State’s 2022 class despite not being the highest-rated.
Winfield was a nice development earlier in the week and it looks like he’s leaning green but Young might happen first because he just took a trip to East Lansing this past weekend and made the decision to reopen his recruitment shortly after.
The coaching staff has been working on the No. 155 defensive lineman in the nation for a while now and this development might just be the nail in his recruitment’s coffin.
The 6-5, 230-pound defensive end from Georgia committed to West Virginia back in June and just received an offer from Michigan State last month, scheduled a Nov. 27 official visit, and now looks like he’s about to be a Spartan.
Tucker is working his recruiting magic once again.
