1. Michigan State pulls off the upset

I was going to be somewhat conservative with these predictions, but to heck with that idea. Michigan State is going to pull off the upset of No. 6 team in the country.

Baylor is the reigning national champion and the Bears are 6-0 this season, smashing pretty much everyone in their path. But Michigan State is 5-1 and is coming off two straight solid wins over potential tournament teams in Loyola Chicago and UConn. Plus, Michigan State hasn’t been completely out-matched in any game this season and it’s faced the No. 3 team in the country.

Against Kansas in the Champions Classic, Michigan State was in it for about 30 minutes and then suffered self-inflicted wounds and the Jayhawks pulled away. But for the most part, Michigan State was in that game and looked solid.

Baylor isn’t quite as good as it was last year — yet — after losing some key pieces, but the Bears are absolutely a top-10 team. Michigan State is still hungry and wants to prove it belongs in the national conversation and I think we’ll see the Spartans do that with a huge upset to win the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Unranked to start the year and likely inside the top 20 after winning a tough Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Tom Izzo, ladies and gentlemen.
