1. Michigan State played sloppily and still won big

It’s nice to see Michigan State play a sloppy brand of basketball and still win by 20-plus points. Obviously, it’s never good to see Michigan State play poorly, but the second half was brutal and the Spartans still extended their lead.

Michigan State got off to a slow start defensively before clamping down before halftime, but there was a stretch in the second half when it looked like the Spartans couldn’t buy a bucket. They struggled to get anything to fall and they were giving up easy buckets on the other end of the floor. It was a really tough stretch to watch and Tom Izzo was far from pleased.

Even though the Spartans won by 24, you can bet Izzo will be fired up in his post-game press conference about his team’s lack of execution late.

That’s the sign of a good team.

If you’re playing sloppily and winning by nearly 30 points, you’re probably a pretty good team.

Michigan State had just one 20-point win last year and through four games, the Spartans have three. This team is better than we expected.
