Michigan State Basketball: 3 keys to victory against unbeaten Butler
By Nate Rhoades
2. Having an offensive post presence
Michigan State will need to establish a post presence early on if they aren’t looking to get blown out. Marcus Bingham Jr., Julius Marble, and Mady Sissko down low will be huge. So will Joey Hauser and Malik Hall. All five of these guys will need an impact on the game.
Hauser is coming off arguably his best game as a Spartan. He had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds against the Broncos and he needs to find his strive early. He can take it to the hole and use some of his post moves to get some easy buckets. The Spartans can also use the pick and pop for Hauser to get open looks at the top of the key. Hauser will need a big game for the Spartans to win this one.
Bingham and Marble are a little inconsistent this year. They both have had good games but not together. Marble had a great game against Kansas while Bingham struggled and vice versa against Western Michigan. If these two players can use their bodies to establish a low block presence early and both get into a rhythm, this Spartan team can be dangerous.
The Spartans fell behind early against the Broncos because they were not getting the ball down low, once they fed the big men things changed drastically.
Having a strong presence on the block will lead to a Michigan State victory.
