Michigan State basketball took the court for its first home game of the season against Western Michigan on Friday night. The Spartans started off sluggish but they were able to find their groove and cruise to a 90-46 victory.

After a loss to Kansas on Tuesday they came out and there was a lot of good things to take away from this dominant win.

1. AJ Hoggard has taken a big step forward

AJ Hoggard has definitely taken a huge leap forward in his sophomore campaign. He is coming off the bench but he is seeing the court better and he is confindent with his own abilities.

Even though Hoggard did not light it up on the court with his scoring, he did with his passing and his vision. He had seven assists and only had two turnovers against the Broncos. He is best when he can get out in transition and push the pace of the game. He has also been able to lower his shoulder and get to the rim when he wants to. He is crafty and uses his body to his advantage to get the leverage he needs to score or find the open man.

Hoggard is for real this season and he will continue to get better and will be a go-to leader later on in the year. This leader is something the Spartans so desperately needed last year and it is something that Hoggard will become in tough conference games.
